NHS Service Hour Opportunities
Things Needing Help Now:
NOTE:
The service opportunity that was scheduled for Thursday, November 12, with Mrs. Fowler making the origami cranes has been moved to next Thursday, November 19.
- We are asking for your help. “Lights of Hope” needs volunteers to help decorate the park on Nov. 14 at 9:30 AM and work until 3:00 PM. Volunteers should dress in warm clothing (layers). Also, work gloves will protect your hands. Plan to bring water or soft drinks. Lunch will be provided at 12:30 for all volunteers on Saturdays for those working all day. **Click here to find out more service opportunities for Lights of Hope.
- Stay after school with Mrs. Fowler on Thursday, November 12 in room 505 to make origami peace cranes. She will give lessons!
- Foothills Alliance - lots of volunteer help needed with the Festival of Trees Nov. 18-21 at the Calhoun- many events, especially guys who can pick up heavy boxes; help during the Festival to greet guests, photos with Santa, etc; marketing of the Festival - distribution of posters, etc. Call Fay Brown at 231-7273
- American Cancer Society needs help for Holiday Bazaar – Friday, 11/20 from 11:00 -7:00 and Saturday, 11/21 from 9:00 – 4:00. It will be in the National Healthcare Rehab Lobby at 1501 Greenville Street.
- Blanket Bundles – Get a new or slightly used blanket, fill it with canned goods, and tie it in a bundle. Take it to the Wal-mart on Liberty Highway in Anderson on Saturday, 11/14, from 10-2. Have one of those accepting the bundles sign off on how many you bring. One bundle equals one hour.
- Tutor needed for after school on Monday, Tuesday, or Thursday – you pick day. Student is in Math Tech 3 and 4. Needs help specifically with the geometry nature of the classes. See Mrs. Lister if you are interested.
- Salvation Army Stocking Stuffers – we need people to donate goods to go into the stockings; please follow the guide below. Every five items equals one hour up to twenty-five items. We will meet on Thursday, December 10 at 6:00 PM to stuff the stockings; that night will count for two hours. Click here to for further instructions.

On-going Opportunities:

- AIM will be a participating agency again with LIGHTS OF HOPE. We will need volunteers during the month of November to help with setup days (November 7, 8, 14, 15, 21 & 22) and for 4 nights from Thanksgiving Day to Christmas Day. Then with 2 clean up days from Dec. 26th – Dec. 31st. Keep this in mind, as we will be taking signups for those times very soon! – Contact Laura
- Some of our volunteer needs at Foothills Alliance: computer work, answering phone and paperwork after school; some strong guys to help us organize our storage area in our attic; helping me with letters and other projects (someone very good in English and use of MS Word), help with writing news releases (journalism student); help with our new e-newsletter; volunteers for our Fall Festival for Children in October, lots of volunteer help with the Festival of Trees Nov. 18-21 at the Calhoun- many events, especially guys who can pick up heavy boxes; help during the Festival to greet guests, photos with Santa, etc; marketing of the Festival - distribution of posters, etc. Contact Fay Brown or Linda Loparo at Foothills Alliance
