Clubs and Organizations
Academic Team [ Laura Hunter]
The T. L. Hanna Academic Team meets every Wednesday afternoon after school in Room 116 until 4:45 P.M.  The team occasionally enjoys Trivia Night at local restaurants.  Anyone who likes "Jeopardy" type questions and is smart will enjoy it.  It is run like a club; participation in events is on a volunteer basis. Academic Team is a fun, enlightening experience.
  
Artist League (Kathy Moore)
This club is open to any student interested in the visual arts.  Students will work with other organizations within the school and community to plan, design, and build visual presentations.  Club members will organize and implement field trips, school wide art events, and social outings.
  
ASTRA (Susan Spigener, Richard Morand)
ASTRA Club is an international service project of Altrusa International.  Membership is open to young women and men between the ages of 13 and 21.  Members will give a minimum of 3 hours per month to projects adopted by the club that benefit our community.  Members should maintain a grade point average of 2.5 or higher since ASTRA does involve time commitment.  Scholarship and volunteering are rewarded with a $500 scholarship awarCohended to a graduating ASTRA senior at Awards Day.
  
CHILL (Chase Culbertson - Faculty Observer)
A student-run Christian club meeting on Friday mornings at 7:15 in the lecture hall before school hours begin.  A faculty member is in attendance as an observer.   Meetings include student and local speakers, the awesome band Elevate, as well as free donuts and orange juice. Come join us for food, fellowship, and a good time.
  
FBLA—Future Business Leaders of America (Tammy Mathews, Janice Bosman, Yvonne Weston, and Kim Styles)
Future Business Leaders of America – Phi Beta Lambda (FBLA-PBL) is the largest business education student organization in the world.  This club is available for students in middle school, high school, and at the collegiate level.  It prepares students for careers in business. Each year, the best and brightest of FBLA students compete in leadership events, share their successes, and learn new ideas about shaping their career future through conferences and seminars.  At the Hanna-Westside Extension Campus, meetings are held monthly and students work on community service projects during the first semester of school.  Students concentrate on competitive events during the second semester where they are able to compete at the district, state, and national levels.  Any student enrolled in a business course is eligible to join FBLA.  For more information, go to www.fbla-pbl.org  or see an FBLA adviser for more information. 
  
FFA—Future Farmers of America (Jay Copelan)
The National FFA Organization is dedicated to making a positive difference in the lives of students by developing their potential for premier leadership, personal growth and career success through agricultural education. They meet at least once a month and compete at career development events, from landscape design to tractor driving.
 
FIRST Tech Challenge Team/Vex Robotics (Kyle Locke)
Working with engineers, teacher volunteers, and students from other schools (including Westside and HWEC), this team works to build a robot to complete a given task, and will compete in regional and national competitions. For more information: www.usfirst.org
  
French Club (John Rogers)
A club for students who are in French II or higher.  The club meets during the second semester, with students gathering monthly at another member’s house to enjoy good movies and cuisine.
  
Future Educators of America (Anne Harder)
FEA (Future Educators of America) is an organization that undertakes tasks connected to fostering education in our school as well as working with teachers to assist them with any tasks students can perform.  Members engage in service work (with organizations such as Head Start and neighboring elementary schools) in our community.   Our major focus is two-fold.  First, we recruit and encourage good students to consider careers in education. Also, we plan education-related activities and teacher appreciation events for students and teachers during American Education Week.  When possible, we provide tutoring service for students at Midway Elementary and SHARE/Head Start.
  
Interact Rotary (Ken Littlejohn)
The Interact Club is a service club sponsored by the local Rotary Clubs of Anderson. It meets on the first Monday of each month. For more information see Coach Littlejohn.
  
Key Club (John Rogers)
The Key Club is a community service organization associated with Kiwanis Clubs International.  Sample activities include collecting money, toys and food for the less fortunate in Anderson.  Members are responsible for keeping Reed Road clean as part of the Adopt-A-Highway program. Members also construct the homecoming float.  Each member is required to do at least 3 hours of community service each month. 
  
Latin (Pat Price)
A club for those who are currently in or completed Latin III.
  
Math Team (Kyle Locke)
The Math Team meets after school on Wednesdays and attends competitions at local colleges.  Active members usually get a weekend in Charleston towards the middle of the school year for the club’s largest competition.
  
Mu Alpha Theta (Kyle Locke)
A national honor society for mathematics.  They meet once a month after induction. For more info, please see Dr. Locke in Room 200 in the mornings.
  
National Honor Society (Elinor Lister, Brenda Hungerford)
Juniors and seniors with a GPA of 4.25 or higher are eligible.  National Honor Society students must exhibit leadership, scholarship, service, and character.  Every member is required to do 12 hours of community service per year.
  
Pageant Club (Kathy Trammell)
A club for senior girls that plans, organizes, and produces the Miss and Mr. T.L. Hanna Pageants.
  
Pen to Paper (Kris Turner)
Pen to Paper is T. L.. Hanna's organization for creative writing.  It is open to all students grades 9 - 12.  The members meet on the fourth Monday of each month from 7:00 p.m until 8:30 p.m. at members' homes or at other designated places.  The teacher sponsor is always present at the meetings.  The objectives of the club are to (1) allow students to write in different genres  (2) share their writing with others  (3) explore different types and forms of writing, and (4) build a workshop environment that gives students a positive forum in which they can grow as writers. All who share an interest in writing or critiquing writing are welcome to attend.
  
Robotics Team (Ralph MacDonald)
Working with Bosch engineers, teacher volunteers, and students from other schools (including Westside and Palmetto) this team works to build a robot to complete a given task, and will compete in regional and national competitions.  It is based at the Hanna-Westside Extension Campus.
  
Spanish Club (Jake White)
A club for those who are currently in or have completed Spanish III.
  
Student Government (Brad Poore)
We meet once a week on Thursdays mornings at 7:30 in the lecture hall and plan events for the school such as spirit week, Battle of the Bands, and Powderpuff Football.  All students are welcomed!
  
Teens for Change (Allison Saville)
Teens for Change is a student-led volunteer service organization which aims to improve the quality of life for fellow students and the community alike. Teens for Change is unique in that service ideas are generated by club members. Teens for Change meets in the cafeteria on Fridays during homeroom.
  
The Treehuggers (Angela Fowler)
The Treehuggers is Hanna’s environmental awareness club.  Meetings focus on information about recycling, environmental education and activism, and ways to “green” your everyday life.  Club members help organize get-togethers, hikes, and an annual Earth Day celebration.  Join us and help save the planet, one person at a time. 
  
Unity Club
Bridges the gap between the different cultures at our school to make it a better school and community.
